My brother suffers from mental retardation. I know it sounds bad and at time’s its so hard. He struggles with most things normal kids can do. It sucks watching you little brother get bullied by ‘normal’ kids at school and just living with someone with a condition is hard. People who are going trough the same thing as me understand how difficult it is.
But he’s also my greatest inspiration. He makes me look at life completely different. How when some kids make fun of him he laughs with them, he knows no better. He’s taught me the most valuable life lessons and he’s only 10. Even though he has a mentality of a 4 year old, he’s one bad ass kid and I’ve sworn I would never let anything hurt him as long as I’m alive but I underestimated him.
Last week he won an art award. Over all the kids in his district, even the ‘normal’ ones. I am extremely proud of my brother. He has taught me yet another lesson. Just because he’s special doesn’t mean he can’t try and succeed in what he likes.
And he gives me the strength when I’m about to give up, if he can even how he is then so can I. All kids with mental illnesses are so wise you just have to open your eyes and notice. They’re angels.
He’s one tough kid. I love him so much and I am honored that god allowed me to be called his big sister. Or what he calls me his ‘sisy.’
